Vaccination against dengue begins in the Jundiaí region

A new campaign for dengue vaccination has started in the Jundiaí region of Brazil, targeting health professionals and dengue combat agents.

A new dengue vaccination campaign has launched in the Jundiaí region of São Paulo, Brazil, specifically in the cities of Jundiaí, Itupeva, and Campo Limpo Paulista. This initiative began on a Monday and employs a single-dose vaccine developed by the Butantan Institute. The vaccines are distributed from the epidemiological surveillance center in Sorocaba, where local health departments collect their allocated doses to commence vaccinations.

In this initial phase of the vaccination campaign, the focus is on primary health care professionals working within the municipal health system, including those agents directly engaged in dengue prevention and control through home visits. Each of the participating cities has been assigned a specific number of vaccine doses and is tasked with independently managing the logistics of administering these vaccines to their residents.

For the city of Sorocaba, over 3,000 doses of the Butantan vaccine have been designated. Officials from the municipal vaccination center indicated that the doses would be collected and administered on the same day, showcasing a proactive approach towards controlling the dengue outbreak in the region and protecting vulnerable populations.
