Firefighters in Alagoas (CBMAL) have confirmed that a woman has died and her husband is missing after their car was swept away by torrential rains in the Sertão region of Alagoas. The woman's body was discovered in Piranhas, while the couple, from Canindé do São Francisco in Sergipe, had not yet been identified. The authorities are actively involved in the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts in the area.

The incident occurred after substantial rainfall caused the water levels to rise dramatically, leading to the car being engulfed. The AL-225 highway, connecting Alagoas and Sergipe, was particularly affected, illustrating the potential dangers of severe weather in the region. According to meteorologist Vinicíus Pinho from the state environmental and water resources agency (Semarh), emergency alerts for additional heavy rain extend into the following Monday, indicating that the region could face further challenges with flooding.

Meteorologist Pinho pointed out that the rainfall recorded so far has reached 100 millimeters, nearly double the usual amount for this time of year.
