Tecio Maciel Xavier, a bus driver, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a 71-year-old woman on a bus in downtown Rio de Janeiro. This arrest follows a report made by the victim six days after the crime occurred, which the police were notified about last Tuesday. The incident reportedly happened on Sunday night while she was traveling on bus line 383 operated by Sou Transportes, after leaving her sister's house in Jacaré and making a transfer to reach the bus heading to the city center.

According to the victim's account to the police, she boarded the bus around 8:30 PM and was one of the only two passengers onboard, with the other individual exiting shortly after they departed. During the ride, the driver allegedly initiated a conversation and expressed a desire to "talk with her." Despite her request to stop the bus at the Instituto Nacional do Câncer, the driver ignored her plea and continued driving along Avenida Presidente Vargas, ultimately leading to the reported assault.
