Rescuers rushed to the sanatorium in Birštonas at night
Emergency services responded to a fire incident at the 'Tulip' sanatorium in Birštonas, Lithuania, late at night, but no injuries were reported.
Late at night, around midnight, staff at the 'Tulip' sanatorium located on B. Sruogos Street in Birštonas reported a fire in a second-floor restroom, prompting a swift response from emergency services. The initial investigation revealed that a fan located in the restroom had caught fire but extinguished itself; there was considerable smoke in the corridor but no serious danger was present. The electrical wires for the fan were disconnected as a safety precaution, and the fan itself was melted by the fire.
Upon the firefighters' arrival, they were informed that the staff had already evacuated one individual from the affected area to a safe corridor. Emergency crews quickly assessed the situation, ventilating the corridor with a positive pressure fan to clear out smoke. Thankfully, no further evacuations were required from other rooms or floors, as the areas were not smoke-infiltrated and posed no immediate danger to the remaining 70 individuals in the building at that time.
The building, a four-story brick structure, is equipped with fire alarm systems, which likely contributed to the organized and swift evacuation conducted by the sanatorium employees. Complete checks of all floors indicated that no injuries or serious incidents had occurred as a result of this minor fire, underscoring the effectiveness of the existing safety protocols in place at the facility.
