Warning from the meteorologist: sidewalks are now in a very dangerous condition
This weekend's weather in the Helsinki metropolitan area is foggy, misty, and drizzly, with warnings issued due to dangerously slippery sidewalks.
The weather forecast for the weekend in Southern Finland, particularly in the Helsinki metropolitan area, indicates foggy, misty, and drizzly conditions, with temperatures hovering around three degrees Celsius. According to meteorologist Tuukka Keränen from the Finnish Meteorological Institute, Saturday will serve as a transitional day, with no significant rainfall expected in the capital region during this time.
A warning has been issued for pedestrians in the Helsinki metropolitan area and much of Southern and Central Finland due to extremely slippery sidewalks, caused by freezing conditions where water is lying on top of ice. The risk of slipping is considerable, and locals are advised to be cautious as some areas might become dangerously slick, potentially making outdoor activities hazardous. Keränen notes that the asphalt in the metropolitan area may begin to appear in some places, but less-maintained pathways may remain treacherously slippery for several days.
Temperatures will vary across the country, with the zero-degree line located approximately at the level of Oulu. Daily temperatures are expected to range from -2 to +4 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures in the central regions could drop between -3 and -7 degrees Celsius. Warnings to pedestrians serve as a reminder of the changing conditions in Finland, emphasizing the need for caution as people navigate their daily routines during the winter season.
