Ceará investigates four suspected cases of mpox in the state in 2026

Ceará is investigating four suspected cases of mpox as reported by the state health department.

The state of Ceará is currently investigating four suspected cases of mpox reported in 2026, according to information released by the State Health Secretariat (Sesa) on Friday, January 27. Historically, the state has received 12 notifications regarding the disease, out of which eight cases have already been dismissed as non-cases. This follows a trend observed over the past two years where the number of confirmed mpox cases has been decreasing annually, with 13 cases confirmed in 2025 and 24 cases in 2024.

Despite the drop in case numbers, the Sesa indicated that monitoring continues to ensure the low circulation of the virus within Ceará. The health department has emphasized the importance of ongoing vigilance and preventive measures, continuously updating their protocols to respond to potential new infections. They encourage individuals who exhibit symptoms or suspect infection to seek immediate care at Basic Health Units (UBS) or Urgent Care Units (UPAs) for diagnostic tests and prompt treatment initiation.

The context of these investigations is critical in light of previous surges in mpox cases, and the state is taking proactive steps to prevent any outbreaks. By consistently monitoring the epidemiological situation and ensuring that healthcare infrastructure is prepared to respond, Ceará aims to protect the health and safety of its residents as part of broader efforts to manage infectious diseases. This vigilance is pivotal in maintaining public health amid ongoing global health challenges related to mpox and other diseases.
