Consortium led by Azevedo & Travassos wins Rota Mogiana in SP with a bid of R$ 1.08 billion

The Consortium Rota Mogiana, led by Azevedo & Travassos, secured the concession of over 500 km of roads in São Paulo for R$ 1.085 billion during a state auction.

The Rota Mogiana Consortium, composed of Azevedo & Travassos and Quimassa Infraestrutura, has won a significant auction held by the government of São Paulo, successfully bidding R$ 1.085 billion for the concession of over 500 kilometers of roads known as the Rota Mogiana. This event took place at B3, the São Paulo Stock Exchange, on Friday, where competing bids included approximately R$ 1.02 billion from MC Brasil, backed by the Mubadala Fund, as well as significantly lower offers from EPR and Motiva. The bidding was competitive, signifying the importance of infrastructure development in the region.

However, the victory for Azevedo & Travassos is not without controversy. Until recently, the company was under scrutiny due to its association with Reag, an investment management firm implicated in a money laundering and fuel fraud scheme related to organized crime in São Paulo. This aspect raises concerns about the ethical implications of their winning the contract, highlighting the ongoing challenges related to corruption and regulatory oversight in Brazil's public procurement processes.

The result of this auction represents a strategic advancement in infrastructure within São Paulo, reflecting the state's commitment to improving transport links. Given the importance of the region for agricultural activities and trade, infrastructure upgrades could facilitate economic growth and potentially attract further investments. However, stakeholders may call for more stringent transparency and accountability measures to prevent any repeat of past issues involving corruption and mismanagement in public works contracts.
