Mogiana Route: SP government auctions 520 km of highways this Friday; see sections and impacts

The São Paulo government is set to auction the management of 520 kilometers of state highways to private companies, with significant investments planned for modernization and maintenance over the next 30 years.

On Friday, the São Paulo government will hold an auction to grant a concession for the management of 520 kilometers of state highways, a process that will take place at the São Paulo Stock Exchange (B3) at 2 PM. This auction is critical as it will determine which private company will take over the administrative responsibilities for these highways for a period of 30 years. The government anticipates around R$ 9.4 billion in investments aimed at upgrading, modernizing, and maintaining the roadways, which will significantly impact nine municipalities in the Campinas region.

Four groups submitted bids on Tuesday for the concession, including Motiva (formerly CCR), MC Brazil Concessões Rodoviárias (part of the Mubadala fund), EPR Participações, and the Rota Mogiana Consortium led by Azevedo and Travassos. The winning bid will be awarded to the group that offers the highest amount to the government for the right to manage these critical road networks. This strategic investment is expected to enhance transportation infrastructure and improve economic activity in the affected regions.

Following the auction, the winning concessionaire will be tasked with carrying out the planned construction works, maintaining the highway network, and managing toll operations, all under the supervision of the government. This initiative reflects the ongoing trend in Brazil towards public-private partnerships in infrastructure, aiming to boost efficiency and facilitate required upgrades in transportation.
