The first of 30 ultra-fast charging electroliners projected until 2027 opened in Quito
Ecuador launched its first ultra-fast charging station for electric vehicles, marking the beginning of a national network to promote electric vehicle adoption.
On February 27, Ecuador inaugurated its first ultra-fast charging station, named Conectz, located at the intersection of Avenida Orellana and Rábida in Quito, with an initial investment exceeding $500,000. This charging plaza is part of a broader initiative to establish a national network of 30 such stations by 2027 aimed at accelerating the transition to electric vehicles in the country. The new station features eight charging points equipped with multiple connector types, promising significant improvements in charging speed and convenience.
Conectz's main innovation lies in its intelligent load-splitting technology, allowing for a maximum output of 600 kW, ensuring that any vehicle can charge at its optimal speed. The station claims to provide charging from 20% to 80% of a battery in just 30 minutes, facilitating quick refuels for electric vehicle users while offering a 24/7 service through an application. The parking fee for a 30-minute charging session is set at $12, alongside an additional charge for the electricity consumed, making it a competitive option for electric vehicle owners.
This opening is poised to make a significant impact on the growth of electric mobility in Ecuador. By establishing this infrastructure, the country is signaling its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable transportation. As these stations become operational, they are expected to encourage potential electric vehicle buyers by alleviating concerns about charging availability, which has been a considerable barrier to widespread adoption in the region.
