Risk area of Campos do Jordão receives alert siren for heavy rain and landslides
Campos do Jordão, Brazil, has installed a second alert siren to warn residents of heavy rain and landslides, following a history of such occurrences in the area.
The Brazilian city of Campos do Jordão has recently been equipped with a new siren for alerting residents about the dangers of heavy rainfall and potential landslides. This installation comes from the São Paulo State Civil Defense and is located in the Vila Santo Antônio neighborhood, known for its high risk due to its geographical features. This zone has a history of incidents related to rainfall, making the siren a vital tool for public safety.
The addition of this siren marks the second such installation in Campos do Jordão, with the first one having been placed in the Britador neighborhood. Following the siren's installation, the Civil Defense conducted drills for residents to educate them on proper safety protocols in the event of an alarm. This proactive approach aims to prepare individuals living near dangerous slopes for potential emergencies triggered by environmental factors.
The Vila Santo Antônio neighborhood features numerous homes built on sloped terrains, which significantly heightens the risk of landslides during periods of heavy rain. Earlier this year, two landslides had already occurred in this area, underscoring the importance of the siren system and the need for constant vigilance by both the authorities and residents to mitigate the dangers posed by extreme weather in the region.
