Warning for Those with Health Problems Due to Saturday's Weather

Meteorologist Gytis Valaika warns that individuals with respiratory and other health issues should be cautious due to upcoming warm weather in Lithuania.

Meteorologist Gytis Valaika has issued a warning for individuals with health problems, especially those related to breathing, as Lithuania is set to experience an increase in temperatures in the coming days. After two months of cold weather, the temperature exceeded 5 degrees Celsius for the first time on Friday, and Saturday is expected to bring even warmer conditions, with southern regions potentially reaching 9 to 11 degrees Celsius. While the record high temperature for February 28 is 12.6 degrees, set in 2017, southern Lithuania may get dangerously close to this mark.

Valaika points out that after a prolonged period of harsh cold, Lithuanians can expect an unprecedented warming trend that signifies the end of winter. However, this increase in temperature is accompanied by potential health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations. The meteorologist highlights that the warm air is being pushed into Lithuania by strong southwestern winds bringing air from northwestern Africa, which may pose challenges for those sensitive to changes in weather conditions.

As Lithuania transitions into this warm spell, the authorities encourage residents to remain aware of the impacts on their health, especially those with respiratory conditions. This advisory serves as a reminder of how quickly weather can change and the importance of monitoring meteorological developments, particularly as the nation prepares for a shift in seasonal climate patterns.
