Retail: December 2025 Closed with a Jump of 6.9% in Revenue
The retail sector in Greece reported a significant increase in revenue for December 2025, marking a 6.9% growth compared to December 2024.
December 2025 proved to be a positive month for the retail sector in Greece, with the General Index of Turnover showing a notable increase of 6.9% compared to the same month in the previous year. According to the data released by the Greek Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), this growth indicates a rebound in consumer spending as the year-end holiday season approaches, suggesting a healthy economic activity among consumers and retailers in Greece.
Additionally, the figures reveal a 10.3% increase when compared to the turnover index of November 2025, further underlining the retail sector's resilience and capacity to recover from previous downturns. The General Volume Index showed a similar upward trend, rising by 5.1% year-on-year and by 10.4% month-on-month, indicating that both revenue and the volume of goods sold experienced substantial growth.
Seasonally adjusted figures also reflect growth, with a 1.3% rise in the seasonally adjusted General Index of Turnover compared to November 2025, and a 1.1% increase in the General Volume Index for the same period. These statistics provide a cautiously optimistic outlook for the retail industry in Greece, highlighting positive consumer behavior and the potential for continued growth into the new year.
