Business accelerator from the outskirts joins BNDES to support entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs from Jardim Ângela in São Paulo can apply for a business acceleration program launched by BNDES in partnership with local producer A Banca.

The recently launched Anip BNDES Periferias program offers financial support ranging from R$ 1,000 to R$ 10,000 for selected entrepreneurial initiatives in Jardim Ângela, a community in the southern zone of São Paulo. This initiative aims to empower a diverse array of businesses, particularly those led by women and those that focus on creative economies, integral health, traditional entrepreneurship rooted in the local territory, and socio-environmental impact initiatives. A total of 500 businesses are expected to be bolstered under this program.

Founded in 2024, the BNDES Periferias program seeks to address the challenges faced by vulnerable communities across Brazil. It aims to provide tailored support, helping local entrepreneurs like Marcelo Rocha, a.k.a. DJ Bola, who founded A Banca, the first originally peripheral organization to collaborate with the BNDES. He emphasizes that the program is designed to strengthen the existing entrepreneurial spirit within Jardim Ângela by organizing solutions and generating income for locals.

This partnership between BNDES and grassroots organizations marks a significant step towards fostering creativity and economic resilience in underprivileged areas. By focusing on supporting women-led initiatives and socio-environmental projects, the program not only aims to stimulate local economies but also seeks to bolster community ties and promote sustainable practices. This could serve as a model for similar initiatives across Brazil, showcasing the potential for uplifting marginalized areas through strategic funding and support.
