Prosecutors charge famous entertainment PD with 'forced molestation' without detention
A well-known entertainment program PD has been charged with forced molestation after allegedly groping a junior colleague during a company dinner.
A prominent PD from a South Korean entertainment program has been charged by the Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office with forced molestation. The incident reportedly occurred during a corporate dinner in August of the previous year when the PD, identified as Mr. G, allegedly made unwanted physical contact with a junior colleague, identified as Mr. N, while moving to a different location after the dinner. The prosecutors announced the charges on the 27th, following a request for supplementary investigation based on the junior colleague's appeal against the police's initial decision to not pursue the case.
The initial police investigation by the Mapo Police Station acknowledged that some physical contact took place between the two individuals but concluded that there was insufficient evidence to prove the intent of molestation, leading them to decide not to forward the case to the prosecutors in December. However, Mr. N contested this decision and submitted an objection, prompting the prosecutorβs office to demand further investigation, which led to the discovery of security camera footage showing Mr. N pushing Mr. G away, reinforcing the allegations of forced molestation.
In response to the allegations, Mr. G's representatives denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the physical interactions were limited to friendly gestures such as shoulder tapping and putting arms around each other's shoulders towards the end of the dinner. The prosecutor's charges will proceed to court, and the specifics will be finalized following judicial review, highlighting the ongoing legal and social issues surrounding workplace misconduct in South Korea's entertainment industry.
