300,000 Euro Bribe: High-Ranking Executive of Gazprom Neft Caught

Antonas Džaliabovas, a senior executive at Gazprom Neft, has been implicated in a bribery scheme totaling 300,000 euros involving contractors between 2020 and 2021.

Antonas Džaliabovas, who served as the director of Gazprom Invest Nadym, is suspected of accepting bribes from contractors in two incidents between 2020 and 2021. The investigation indicates that Džaliabovas facilitated payments for construction work that had not actually been completed, thereby protecting contractors from penalties and losses due to missed deadlines. In return for his actions, it has been alleged that he received approximately 28 million rubles, which he used to purchase an apartment in a residential complex in Sochi, known as 'Aktior Galaxy.'

Additionally, the investigation revealed that a yacht worth over 1.7 million rubles (nearly 19,000 euros) was also part of the bribe offered to Džaliabovas. The case is being examined under Article 290, section 6 of the Russian Criminal Code, which deals with the acceptance of bribes on a particularly large scale, potentially resulting in a prison sentence of up to 15 years. This bribery case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding corruption in the Russian energy sector and could have broader implications for corporate governance and accountability in major state-owned enterprises.

Born in 1980, Džaliabovas graduated from Ufa State Petroleum Technological University with a degree in oil and gas field development. His involvement in this case raises questions about the integrity of leadership within Gazprom Neft and underscores the need for stricter oversight in the contracting processes within the energy industry.
