Municipality of Athens: 90 Jacarandas on Vasilissis Konstantinou Avenue
The Municipality of Athens has initiated the planting of 90 Jacaranda trees along the iconic Vasilissis Konstantinou Avenue as part of a green initiative to enhance the cityβs greenery.
The Municipality of Athens has launched a project to plant 90 new Jacaranda trees on Vasilissis Konstantinou Avenue, a key thoroughfare in the city. This initiative, conducted by the city's Green Services Department in collaboration with Anaplasi S.A., aims to beautify the urban landscape and replace the dried-up mulberry trees previously damaged by the invasive Chinese beetle. The planting is expected to be completed in the coming days, adding vibrant color to the busy avenue.
Since the beginning of 2026, Athens has seen the planting of 1,417 trees at various locations, contributing to an overall total of nearly 11,500 trees planted since 2024. This large-scale planting effort reflects the city's commitment to environmental enhancement and urban beautification, which is crucial for improving the quality of life for its residents. The city officials are enthusiastic about the new installations, highlighting their benefits to urban biodiversity and aesthetics.
George Apostolopoulos, the Deputy Mayor for Environment and Green Spaces, commented on the initiative, stating that the new Jacaranda trees, known for their beautiful purple flowers during blooming season, will revitalize the avenue and make Athens greener and more picturesque. This effort is part of a broader strategy to replace lost trees and mitigate the impact of environmental challenges in urban settings.
