Traffic chaos on Athens Avenue caused by works on the Attica Road
Significant traffic issues are affecting Athens Avenue due to mandatory diversions from the Attica Road for maintenance work.
Significant traffic congestion has hit Athens Avenue as all vehicles from the Attica Road are being diverted here due to maintenance work being carried out on the route to the airport. This maintenance is focused on the Liosia tunnel and is expected to last until February 22. As a result, all entries to the Attica Road from Elefsina to the Aigaleo ring road are blocked, forcing drivers to seek alternative routes.
Authorities have advised that vehicles heading towards central Athens are being rerouted via Athens Avenue. Those traveling towards Lamia are also directed to continue on Athens Avenue before making a left turn at Kifisos, near the KTEL bus station. Vehicles bound for the airport are forced to take a longer detour using Athens Avenue and Kifisos, eventually rejoining the Attica Road at the Metamorfosi junction.
The situation has worsened over the day, leading to long delays as the volume of traffic increases. Drivers are urged to plan ahead and consider taking alternative routes to avoid the congestion. The maintenance work and its resultant fallout on traffic emphasize the need for timely public communication and infrastructural updates to ensure the smooth flow of vehicular movement, particularly in a major urban center like Athens.
