Zacharaki: National Examinations to Start on May 29 – Nine-Month Dialogue for the National Diploma
The Greek national examinations will begin on May 29 for General Lyceums and May 30 for Vocational Lyceums, with a new national diploma being discussed over the next nine months.
The Greek Minister of Education, Sofia Zacharaki, announced that the national examinations will commence on May 29 for General Lyceums (ΓΕΛ) and on May 30 for Vocational Lyceums (ΕΠΑΛ). She also mentioned that registrations for Kindergarten and 1st Grade will open on March 2 through the gov.gr platform and will last for 20 days. This early announcement comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance educational processes and ensure clarity for students and parents ahead of the new academic cycle.
Zacharaki emphasized that the national examinations will not be abolished and the current system will remain in effect for the coming years. Any changes proposed will not affect students already in high school or those currently in the third grade of junior high school. This consideration aims to maintain stability and educational peace for the students during a transition phase.
The minister highlighted that the objective of the ongoing nine-month dialogue is to restore a significant role in secondary education, improve the credibility of the diploma process, and ultimately create a strong and reliable National Diploma. This initiative appears to be a response to evolving educational needs and aims to align Greece's educational standards with contemporary requirements, ensuring better outcomes for future students.
