Transported kilograms of cocaine in a table and fled from the police on a bike

Three Lithuanians have been charged with attempting large-scale drug trafficking after being implicated in importing a kilogram of cocaine concealed in a table.

The District Prosecutor has charged three Lithuanians with the attempted trafficking of large quantities of narcotics. The trio is accused of importing a kilogram of cocaine, which was confirmed to be between 85 and 86 percent pure, equating to 95 to 96 percent of cocaine hydrochloride. This shipment was reportedly hidden within a concrete table sent to Iceland from the United States in August 2024.

Law enforcement agencies intercepted the package at the Iceland Post postal center in Stórhöfði. Upon uncovering the illegal substance, the authorities set up surveillance and monitoring equipment to apprehend those involved. One of the accused, referred to as X, was the registered recipient of the shipment and retrieved it before taking it to an auto repair shop. Subsequently, an accomplice, referred to as Y, collected the shipment from the auto shop and transported it to a garage in Álfheimum.

Further investigation revealed that a third individual, referenced as Z, met with Y on the same day the package was collected. This case has significant implications for drug trafficking in Iceland, reflecting the ongoing challenges authorities face in dealing with the increasing sophistication of drug smuggling operations and the international networks behind them. Such incidents highlight the need for enhanced cooperation between Icelandic law enforcement and international agencies to combat the flow of illegal drugs into the country.
