They smuggled cocaine hidden in cakes. Police want to charge seven foreigners and one Czech

The police in Czechia are seeking to charge seven foreigners and one Czech national for smuggling over 30 kilograms of cocaine hidden in cakes transported from Germany to Prague.

Czech authorities are pressing charges against a group of individuals involved in an elaborate drug smuggling operation, bringing over 30 kilograms of cocaine from Germany to the Czech Republic. The cocaine was ingeniously concealed in cakes carried by couriers on a bus from Berlin to Prague's Florenc bus station. The National Anti-Drug Headquarters has stated that the alleged criminals paid over 600,000 Czech koruna for each kilogram of the drug, only to sell it at a marked-up price in Prague, indicating a significant black market demand.

The organized group reportedly operated from the summer of 2024 until February last year, when the police began detaining suspects. Of the accused, five are currently in custody while three others are free but face potential sentences of up to 18 years in prison. This operation not only involved cocaine trafficking but also included the transport of other illicit drugs, such as over 3,000 doses of LSD and various other substances, showing a wide-ranging drug distribution network within the Czech Republic.

At the helm of this criminal enterprise was a former bartender who initially started by distributing marijuana. However, he quickly moved on to more dangerous drugs, highlighting a troubling trend of individuals in the hospitality sector transitioning into more serious criminal endeavors. The police department's efforts to dismantle this gang reflect a larger commitment to combat drug-related crimes and protect public safety in the Czech Republic.
