Army, NUJ move to deepen cooperation in Sokoto
The Nigerian Army's 8 Division in Sokoto pledges enhanced cooperation with local journalists to improve security communication and counter misinformation.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgha Koughna, has expressed a commitment to fostering a stronger relationship with journalists in Sokoto State. During a recent meeting with the Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Koughna recognized the essential role of the media in promoting public understanding of military operations and public safety. He emphasized that timely and accurate information is crucial in combating misinformation and maintaining societal peace.
Koughna's remarks come at a time when communication between security forces and the media is increasingly important. He highlighted the necessity for collaboration, stating that the Army under his leadership would prioritize this partnership with journalists to enhance the dissemination of information related to security. This intention reflects a broader trend of military organizations around the world recognizing the media's influence on public perception and operational transparency.
The initiative aims not only to strengthen ties between the military and journalists but also to empower media professionals with reliable information, thus enabling them to engage more effectively with the public. By building this collaboration, the Nigerian Army hopes to bolster public trust and create a more informed citizenry regarding security issues in the region, essential for fostering peace and stability in Sokoto State.
