Insecurity: Army deploys special forces to Benue, others
The Nigerian Army has sent special forces to Benue and surrounding states to enhance security and support local communities.
In a bid to address rising insecurity in Nigeria, the Army has deployed specially trained forces known as the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Battalion XV to Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States. This initiative aims to strengthen internal security and stabilize vulnerable communities that have been affected by violence and unrest. The deployment is part of a strategic effort to reinforce the existing security measures set in place by the Joint Task Force, Operation WHIRL STROKE.
The troops involved have recently completed an intensive Special Forces training program at the Nigerian Army Training Centre located in Kontagora. The Nigerian Army has emphasized the need for this deployment as a 'force multiplier,' enhancing the capacity of Operation WHIRL STROKE to effectively respond to security challenges. The announcement came via a statement from Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the acting Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, underlining the urgency of improving security in these areas.
This deployment highlights the ongoing struggle within Nigeria to combat insecurity, and it reflects both a military strategy and a response to the pressing needs of communities that have suffered from violence. With the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, approving this action, the Army aims to restore peace and stability in key operational zones, thereby improving the overall safety for residents in these affected states.
