Two military trucks and one military car were involved in an accident in Rovaniemi, Finland, with no injuries reported among the service members.
On Friday morning, two military trucks and one military car were involved in an accident on Kemijärventie in Rovaniemi, Finland. The incident included six service members from the Army, specifically four from the Maasotakoulu (Army Academy) and two from the Jääkäriprikaati (Jaeger Brigade), but fortunately, none were injured according to a statement from the Finnish Defence Forces. Emergency services attended the scene to assess all individuals involved, and the vehicles sustained damage as a result of the collision. The road was closed off during the rescue operations, leading to significant disruptions in traffic.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Kemijärventie and Naarmintie, and the road was officially closed to traffic around 8 AM and remained obstructed until at least 10 AM. According to reports from Fintraffic, the area affected by the accident extended over five kilometers, resulting in long tailbacks of vehicles. By 10 AM, eyewitness Matti Torvinen, who was traveling from Kemijärvi to Rovaniemi, estimated that there were at least 100 cars lined up, with the queue stretching over considerable distances due to the traffic disruption.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by military convoys on public roads, particularly in terms of safety and traffic management. Despite the unfortunate circumstances of the accident, the lack of injuries among the military personnel underscores the effectiveness of current safety measures in place for transport operations. However, such incidents can still lead to significant public inconvenience, as evidenced by the extensive traffic delays experienced by civilian motorists in the area.
