Strengthening security and stabilizing tariffs - "Rīgas siltums" has installed a fast-acting electrode boiler

Rīgas Siltums has installed a fast-acting electrode boiler to enhance heating efficiency and increase tariff stability.

Rīgas Siltums, a major heating company in Latvia, has installed a new fast-acting electrode boiler at its Imanta heating plant, which can reach full capacity in just 90 seconds. This rapid response capability allows the company to react swiftly to the demands of the electricity market, enhancing operational efficiency. The boiler's capacity is 49 megawatts (MW), and its compact size makes it easy to integrate with existing equipment in the heating plant.

The installation of this new boiler has significant implications for the residents and businesses in the area. During the summer months, the electrode boiler is expected to supply hot water to the entire Imanta district and potentially to the left bank of Riga. The investment, totaling 3.78 million euros, is aimed at diversifying the fuel supply, which will bolster security and help stabilize heating tariffs in the future. According to Kalniņš, a representative from the company, it’s crucial to reduce reliance on a single resource for energy supply.

Rīgas Siltums is also exploring opportunities to install similar electrode boilers in other locations, indicating a broader strategy to improve heating services throughout the region. This project not only represents a financial investment in infrastructure but also reflects a commitment to enhancing energy security and efficiency in Latvia's increasingly variable energy market.
