Group seeks release of jailed Lagos tanker drivers
Human Rights Monitoring Agenda has called for the release of four jailed tanker drivers in Lagos, who they say were wrongfully imprisoned after reporting an attack to the police.
The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) has made a public appeal to the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police regarding the imprisonment of four petroleum tanker drivers in Lagos. The drivers—Kabiru Salami, Kazeem Adeniran, Saheed Alegbeleye, and Oladeji Rahmon—are currently held at the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre. HURMA's Director, Buna Isiak, raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding their arrest, stating that the drivers had gone to report an attack by another faction of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers operating in the area. Contrary to expectations, the police allegedly took action against them rather than the attackers.
