Foundation trains 90 Lagos students in tech skills
The Ajoke Ayisat Afolabi Foundation, in partnership with the World Bank, has trained over 90 secondary students in Lagos in various technology skills as part of a campaign to combat youth unemployment.
The Ajoke Ayisat Afolabi Foundation, the corporate social responsibility wing of SIFAX Group, announced the successful training of over 90 students at the State Senior Secondary School, Oyewole, located in the Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State. This initiative, in collaboration with the World Bank, aims to equip students with essential technology skills, fostering self-employment and entrepreneurship among the youth. The training program spans a wide range of subjects, including computer literacy, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, ensuring that the participants gain practical and applicable knowledge relevant in today’s job market.
The foundation’s effort is part of the broader Community Connections Campaign projects across Nigeria, which seeks to uplift communities through education and skill development. According to Olumuyiwa Akande, Head of Corporate Communications at SIFAX Group, the initiative is not just about skill acquisition; it also emphasizes the importance of knowledge-sharing. The trained students are expected to pass on what they have learned to others, creating a ripple effect of education and empowerment within their communities.
Mrs. Foluke Ademokun, the Executive Coordinator of the foundation, highlighted that this training is a strategic response to the pressing issue of youth unemployment and the significant skills gap prevalent in Nigeria. The initiative aims to harness the potential of the youth by providing them with the necessary tools to succeed in the tech-driven economy, thereby contributing to economic growth and stability in the country. With this comprehensive approach, the foundation hopes to make a lasting impact on the lives of the participants and their communities.
