UNICEF, Unilever deepen pact on children’s skills development
UNICEF and Unilever Nigeria have renewed their partnership to enhance children's and youth's skill development in Nigeria, focusing on employability, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship.
UNICEF and Unilever Nigeria have strengthened their ongoing partnership aimed at developing skills among children and youth in Nigeria. This collaboration, highlighted during a press conference in Lagos, has been delivering significant impact for over two and a half years by centering its efforts on employability, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship training. The program utilizes the Youth Agency Marketplace platform from UNICEF and leverages Unilever's social media channels and networks within higher education institutions, facilitating a comprehensive approach to skill-building.
Tobi Adeniyi, the Managing Director of Unilever Nigeria, emphasized the strategic nature of this partnership, which combines the leadership of the public sector with UNICEF's global expertise and Unilever's commitment to sustainability. This initiative not only fosters leadership and practical skills among students but also promotes an integrated model of skill development that maximizes reach and effectiveness. The program's dual approach, incorporating both digital learning and direct campus engagement, ensures extensive outreach to the youth.
To date, the initiative has successfully engaged over 85,000 students through 30 career seminars organized across universities and polytechnics. The positive reception of these programs underscores the growing demand for skill-building opportunities among Nigerian youth, reflecting a crucial step towards enhancing employability in a rapidly evolving job market. The collaboration between UNICEF and Unilever serves as a model for future educational initiatives aiming to empower the next generation in Nigeria.
