Company targeted by accusations continues contracts with the city hall until the end of the investigation, says Nunes

São Paulo's Mayor Ricardo Nunes announced that an investigated company will retain its city contracts during ongoing inquiries into its connections with a dismissed tourism secretary.

São Paulo's Mayor Ricardo Nunes stated that the company under investigation for potential ties to former deputy secretary of tourism Rodolfo Marinho will continue to provide services to the city while inquiries by the City Hall's Controller-General's Office are ongoing. This decision comes as a response to a need for maintaining workforce operations and ensuring that employees receive their salaries during this period.

The company in question, MM Quarter Produções, has significant contracts amounting to R$ 239 million with the São Paulo Tourism Company (SPTuris). The investigation has already resulted in the dismissal of Marinho, who is suspected of being a hidden partner in the firm, prompting a leadership change within SPTuris itself. The newly appointed head of SPTuris will be Coronel Salles, the sub-mayor of the Sé district.

This situation highlights the delicate balance of public service operations amid allegations of impropriety. While ensuring continuity of service, Mayor Nunes emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, announcing upcoming bids for a new contractor. The outcome of the investigation could have significant implications for public trust in local governance and the management of public contracts, particularly in the tourism sector, which has faced challenges in the wake of the pandemic.
