Cine Copan, a historic cinema in São Paulo, is set to open its doors for free guided tours on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 9:30 AM. The tours will be conducted by the architect responsible for the renovation of the old street cinema, allowing visitors to explore its architectural history and learn about the upcoming NuCine Copan project. Originally designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer and inaugurated in 1970, Cine Copan became a landmark for film enthusiasts in São Paulo. However, due to the decline of street cinemas in the 1980s, when preference shifted towards shopping malls, the cinema ceased operations. It is scheduled to be reopened in 2027 under the new name NuCine Copan, as part of a collaborative initiative between Nubank and Viva do Brasil. The renovation promises to enhance the space significantly, featuring 440 seats, an LED screen, and Dolby Atmos sound.
