The Island of Arvoredos has renewed its Green Key international certification for 2026, maintaining its status as the only ecotourism attraction in the Americas to achieve this recognition.
The Island of Arvoredos, located in Guarujá, São Paulo, has successfully renewed its Green Key international certification, which is valid until 2026. This renewal signifies that the island continues to be the only ecotourism attraction in both the Americas and the Southern Hemisphere that has achieved this prestigious environmental certification among the 87 recognized worldwide. The Green Key certification is awarded to tourist enterprises, hotels, camping parks, event centers, restaurants, and ecotouristic attractions that adhere to strict environmental management guidelines.
The recertification process for the Island of Arvoredos involved a thorough assessment conducted by an external audit, which focused on several key areas of environmental management. These areas included waste management practices, the utilization of water and energy resources, sustainable management of green spaces, social responsibility initiatives, and the implementation of effective administrative procedures. The positive evaluation from the audit highlights the island’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism.
With over 8,500 Green Key certificates granted across more than 90 countries, the recognition of the Island of Arvoredos as a leader in environmental management emphasizes its unique position in ecotourism.
