Court orders improvements on Assis Chateaubriand Highway in the interior of SP
A Brazilian court has ordered highway maintenance and safety improvements on the Assis Chateaubriand Highway following a request from the São Paulo Public Ministry due to high fatal accident rates.
A São Paulo court has mandated the Department of Roadways (DER) to undertake urgent maintenance works on the Assis Chateaubriand Highway in the Penápolis region, responding to a request from the São Paulo Public Ministry. This decision comes after safety assessments indicated a significant number of fatal accidents on this stretch of road, raising concerns about its safety for motorists.
Motorists, including truck drivers like Rogério Mollemberg, have reported difficulties and feelings of insecurity while traveling on the highway. Mollemberg highlighted issues such as overgrown vegetation obstructing visibility of road signs and the presence of potholes and uneven road surfaces, which worsen the risk of accidents. His comments emphasize the urgent need for infrastructure improvements along this road to ensure driver safety.
The ruling is a response to a report from the Operational Support Center for Execution, which pointed out the alarming safety conditions on the highway. The mandated improvements aim to address these concerns, bringing attention to the broader issue of road safety and the responsibilities of governmental agencies in maintaining safe transport routes for all road users.
