Free sterilization and consultation for dogs and cats in Campo Grande; see how

The Subea is launching a free sterilization program for dogs and cats in Campo Grande, aimed at low-income families.

The Superintendence of Animal Welfare (Subea) is set to begin a free sterilization program for dogs and cats in Campo Grande starting next Monday, aimed at assisting low-income families. Each day, the program will offer 30 slots—15 for sterilization and 15 for consultations—allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Services will be available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 7:30 AM to 1 PM, where receiving pets will undergo veterinary evaluations and receive microchips, ensuring they are eligible for the procedure.

To take advantage of this initiative, pet owners must provide certain documentation, including an updated CadÚnico registration within the last 24 months, a photo ID, and proof of residence in Campo Grande. The program targets dogs and cats aged at least five months and weighing up to 25 kg. This initiative is part of broader public policies aimed at population control, reflecting the city's commitment to improving the health and welfare of its animal population while addressing the needs of lower-income citizens.

The implementation of this free sterilization program not only aims to control the stray animal population but also seeks to alleviate the financial burden on low-income families who may struggle to afford veterinary care. By providing these services, Campo Grande demonstrates a proactive approach to animal welfare, highlighting the importance of responsible pet ownership and public health in urban settings. Such programs can have lasting impacts on local communities by promoting better care for pets and reducing the number of abandoned animals.
