Demand for Voting in One Phase in Tamil Nadu, Appeal to ECI to Stop Freebies

Political parties in Tamil Nadu are urging the Election Commission of India to conduct elections in a single phase and to impose strict regulations on the use of money and distribution of freebies during elections.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is currently reviewing preparations for upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu, with its team visiting the state. During a multi-party meeting led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, various political parties articulated their demands and suggestions to the ECI. Most parties called for the elections to be held in a single phase to ensure better resource management and effective adherence to the code of conduct.

In the meeting, participants stressed the need for stringent measures against the use of money power and the distribution of free gifts during the elections. Several representatives requested an increase in the number of flying squads to prevent electoral malpractice. They argued that strengthening grassroots surveillance mechanisms would effectively deter attempts to influence voters, thereby promoting fair elections.

The representatives of political parties engaged in detailed discussions with administrative and police officials, addressing vital issues such as security requirements, challenges faced during electoral processes, the availability of election materials, and other logistical arrangements. This comprehensive dialogue underlines the importance of transparency and fairness in the electoral process in Tamil Nadu, reflecting the broader national focus on ensuring free and fair elections across India.
