Government delivers humanitarian aid to those affected by rains in Milagro
The Ecuadorian government has deployed humanitarian aid to areas affected by severe flooding in the canton of Milagro.
In response to the devastating flooding in the canton of Milagro, Ecuador, the Ministry of Human Development mobilized to assess the affected areas and distribute aid to those impacted by the adverse weather. Minister Zaida Rovira, along with Guayas Governor José Arévalo and Deputy Minister of Sports Roberto Ibáñez, visited the flooded zones to evaluate the damage to homes and belongings, which in some cases have incurred losses up to $4,000.
The situation in Milagro has reached critical levels, prompting the Secretariat for Risk Management to declare a red alert due to the intensity of the rain and the overflow of waterways. During their visit, the officials witnessed roads submerged in water and the dire condition of residences. As part of the initial assistance, Minister Rovira announced that non-perishable food and clothing were distributed to over 300 individuals who were displaced from their homes by the flooding.
The government’s response illustrates the ongoing challenges posed by extreme weather events in Ecuador, highlighting the need for resilient infrastructure and effective emergency response systems. As flooding becomes more frequent, it becomes imperative for authorities to address both immediate needs and long-term strategies to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters on vulnerable populations in the region.
