A 25-year-old woman was arrested in Brazil for allegedly drugging and robbing Peruvian tourists using the 'Good Night, Cinderella' scam.
On February 26, 2025, Brazilian police arrested a 25-year-old woman in Cabo Frio, suspected of participating in a scheme to drug and rob Peruvian tourists in Búzios. The scheme, known as 'Boa Noite, Cinderela' in Portuguese, involves incapacitating victims through the administration of substances before stealing their belongings. The incident took place when the victims interacted with the suspect and two accomplices in the Lapa district of Rio de Janeiro before traveling to Búzios, where they were robbed of valuables including gold jewelry, cash, personal items, and a luxury watch.
This arrest marks the second individual detained in connection with the case, indicating a potential organized effort targeting unsuspecting tourists. According to the Special Tourism Support Police Delegation (DEAT), the police had already detained one co-conspirator prior to this arrest, highlighting ongoing efforts to tackle crimes against tourists in popular Brazilian destinations like Búzios. The suspects' modus operandi raises concerns about safety for tourists, particularly in areas known for attracting visitors.
The police acted on a preventive arrest warrant issued by the Criminal Court of Armação de Búzios, as the investigation continues. Authorities are committed to enhancing tourist safety and combating fraudulent schemes that exploit vacationers, reflecting broader concerns regarding the integrity and security of tourism in the region. As the incident sheds light on the darker side of tourism, it emphasizes the importance of vigilant travel practices among tourists.
