The incident occurred on Tuesday, the 24th, caused by a short circuit in a welding machine, leading to significant damage, with approximately 68% of the structure affected. Although the head, hands, rosary, and crown were not yet installed on the main structure, the municipal team, along with artist Ranilson Viana, inspected the site following the event to assess the extent of the damage.

Natal's city officials have announced a plan to rebuild the statue within seven months, emphasizing the need for safety tests on the remaining structural components. Shirley Cavalcanti, the city’s Secretary of Infrastructure, stated that the visible part of the structural work remains intact, warranting confidence in the reconstruction process. Additionally, all future installations will involve rigorous safety checks to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
