Viih Tube loses almost R$ 7,000 in a scam on social media and warns followers

Influencer Viih Tube warns her followers about a scam that cost her nearly R$ 7,000 while trying to sell a sofa online.

Viih Tube, a popular influencer and former Big Brother Brasil contestant, recently shared her unfortunate experience of being scammed while trying to sell a sofa online, leading to a loss of approximately R$ 6,800. After posting her ad, she was contacted by a man posing as a Mercado Livre employee, who manipulated her into believing she had to pay non-existent fees to continue the transaction. After engaging with him, she sent payments totaling R$ 600 and later R$ 6,200, before realizing it was a scam.

In her heartfelt disclosure, Viih Tube expressed her frustration and anger over the incident, emphasizing the emotional toll it took on her. She shared her story with her followers, which total over 32 million, to raise awareness about such scams and encourage them to be cautious when selling items online. Despite the significant financial loss, she clarified that Mercado Livre itself was not involved in the fraudulent activity, attributing the scam to a clever con artist.

The incident highlights the risks associated with online transactions, particularly on platforms where individuals sell goods directly to each other. It serves as a warning not only to Viih Tube's followers but to anyone engaging in similar online marketplaces to verify the identities of potential buyers and to remain skeptical of unusual payment requests. This unfortunate event sheds light on the darker side of digital commerce and the importance of protective measures when buying and selling online.
