Chandauli: 50 lakh worth of liquor hidden under onions, prepared for Holi

The Chandauli police discovered and seized illegal liquor worth 50 lakh rupees hidden beneath bags of onions in a truck during a check, a scheme apparently intended for distribution during the Holi festival.

In a significant operation, the Chandauli police and Special Operations Group (SOG) intercepted a truck registered in Rajasthan near the Majawar station, uncovering a massive quantity of illegal English liquor valued at 50 lakh rupees. The truck was transporting the liquor from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh to Bihar, with two traffickers from Haryana arrested during the operation. To mislead the authorities, the traffickers attempted to obscure the liquor by concealing it beneath bags of onions, showcasing a level of planning in their operations.

As the Holi festival approaches, the demand for contraband liquor tends to increase, prompting heightened vigilance among law enforcement. During the routine check, the police noticed a suspicious truck laden with onions that upon further investigation revealed a substantial stash of approximately 3800 liters of liquor hidden deftly to avoid detection. This incident reflects the ongoing issue of liquor smuggling, especially in regions where alcohol sales are regulated or banned.

The police conducted a thorough check that led to the revelation of this illegal trade, ultimately leading to the arrest of the truck driver and his accomplice. They have been charged under the Excise Act and sent to jail. This bust not only dismantles a temporary smuggling operation but also sends a strong message about the persistent efforts of law enforcement to combat illicit drug and alcohol trafficking, particularly around culturally significant times like Holi.
