Truck overturns and completely blocks Fernão Dias Highway in Extrema, MG

A truck accident on the BR-381 in Extrema, Minas Gerais, completely blocked the highway, causing significant traffic delays and minor injuries to the driver.

This morning in Extrema, Minas Gerais, a five-axle truck overturned on the BR-381, leading to complete road closure at kilometer 934 in the southern direction towards São Paulo. The incident occurred around 6:10 AM and was reported by Arteris, the highway concessionaire, which confirmed that all three lanes were blocked. By 7:26, traffic had built up to a 10-kilometer jam, and there was no estimate for when the road would be reopened.

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) reported that the truck driver, a 25-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Emergency Hospital in Extrema by the SAMU ambulance service. Fortunately, there was no spillage of the truck's cargo; however, a portion of the plastic cargo was scattered across the roadway. Authorities, including both the PRF and Arteris, are at the scene to manage traffic and facilitate the vehicle's removal.

This incident highlights potential concerns regarding highway safety and the efficiency of emergency response in busy transport corridors like the BR-381, a crucial route connecting the state of Minas Gerais to São Paulo. The lengthy road closure not only disrupts local traffic but may also impact freight transport and economic activities in the region, prompting discussions about infrastructure and travel safety in the area.
