Truck overturns and causes congestion on the Fernão Dias highway, in Vargem
A truck overturned on the Fernão Dias highway in Vargem, Brazil, leading to a 13-kilometer traffic jam, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
On Tuesday afternoon, a truck accident on the Fernão Dias highway (BR-381) in Vargem, São Paulo, prompted the authorities to close the road at kilometer 7.5 in the direction of São Paulo. The accident occurred around 12:40 PM, when the truck, which was carrying parts for the automotive industry, overturned. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, but it resulted in significant traffic congestion of 13 kilometers long.
As the situation developed, the Federal Highway Police (PRF) worked to remove the truck and clear the road. By around 2:45 PM, one of the lanes (lane 1) was reopened for traffic. Despite the reopening, drivers continued to experience substantial delays due to the backlog created by the earlier blockage. The incident highlights the challenges of road safety and traffic management on busy highways in Brazil.
Motorists traveling on the Fernão Dias highway, a major route connecting São Paulo to other regions, are often affected by accidents that can result in long delays. This incident serves as a reminder for drivers to exercise caution and be aware of road conditions, especially on highways known for heavy traffic. Authorities will likely continue monitoring traffic flow to prevent future incidents from causing similar disruptions.
