Bus carrying schoolchildren veered off the road - six hospitalized

A bus transporting schoolchildren veered off the road in Kokemäki, resulting in six children being hospitalized for further treatment.

In Kokemäki, a bus transporting schoolchildren veered off the road, leading to a serious accident on Järiläntie. According to Juho Salminen, a watchful fire chief from the Satakunta rescue service, the bus was carrying a total of 12 individuals, including school-aged children, at the time of the incident. Six of these children were taken to the hospital for further care, although their injuries were reported not to be particularly severe. Four of the injured were transported by emergency medical services, while two were taken by private transport. On Wednesday morning, the accident occurred under poor driving conditions due to inclement weather in the Varsinais-Suomi region, which may have contributed to the driver losing control of the vehicle. The bus skidded off the road and tipped onto its side in a field, colliding with a personal car in the process. Thankfully, the two occupants of the car were unharmed, although the vehicle did sustain minor damages. The accident has resulted in minor traffic disruptions at the site as cleanup work is required. Authorities are likely to review vehicle safety protocols and the condition of the roads to prevent future incidents, especially those involving school transport, which raises significant concerns regarding child passenger safety in public transportation.
