The Public Prosecutor's Cancellation Committee to Remain Until President Lee's Indictment is Cancelled
The Public Prosecutor's Cancellation Committee announced it will continue its operations until President Lee's indictment is cancelled, despite calls for its dissolution following the establishment of a new official party organization.
On the 26th, the Public Prosecutor's Cancellation Committee (공취모) reiterated its commitment to remain active until the cancellation of the indictment against President Lee Jae-myung. There were internal and external calls for the committee to dissolve, especially after a related official structure was formed within the Democratic Party of Korea. However, the committee resolved to maintain its presence, emphasizing their goal of achieving the indictment's cancellation.
During a meeting at a restaurant in Yeouido, the committee's leadership confirmed their position in a press statement, stating that the committee would continue its operations until their ultimate goal is reached. They noted, however, that the committee would minimize independent actions and focus on cooperating actively with the party's special committee and special investigation team. The committee clarified that its formation was voluntary among members, with a readiness to respect any decisions from individuals wishing to leave the group.
The committee was officially launched on the 23rd with 105 members. Park Sung-jun, the committee's representative, mentioned that although there were opinions on dissolving the group since a party special committee had been established, the majority argued it should stay until the indictment is canceled. The Democratic Party had previously set up a research committee to investigate allegations surrounding the current government’s charges against the president, attempting to reframe the emergence of the committee from perceived factional conflict within the party into a more organized official entity. Nonetheless, the committee maintains it exists independently of the party's official structure as they work towards their specified goals.
