"Is the Public Cancellation Group becoming a faction meeting?"...Kim Gi-pyo and Buseung-chan declare withdrawal
Two members of the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Gi-pyo and Buseung-chan, have announced their withdrawal from a group aimed at pushing for the cancellation of charges against President Lee Jae-myung, following the establishment of a formal committee within their party.
On the 25th, Democratic Party members Kim Gi-pyo and Buseung-chan publicly declared their departure from the 'Public Cancellation Group', which was centered on advocating for the cancellation of charges against President Lee Jae-myung, on the grounds that the party established a formal investigation committee. Kim voiced disappointment over the group's decision to continue existing despite the creation of this official committee aimed at uncovering the truth behind alleged political prosecutions under the Yoon Seok-youl administration. He expressed concern that the persistence of the group could turn it into a faction within the party rather than serve the common purpose of accountability and justice.
Buseung-chan echoed these sentiments, highlighting that the lack of action from the party regarding alleged political manipulations by the prosecution during the Lee administration was disheartening. He expressed relief that the party was finally taking steps to initiate a national inquiry and a special investigation regarding these issues. His statements underscored a collective desire among some party members for accountability while also emphasizing the need for integrity within party operations.
As a result of their withdrawals, the membership of the Public Cancellation Group has decreased from 105 to 103. Given the establishment of the new formal committee, further resignations from the group are anticipated, reflecting a potential shift in the party dynamics and the ongoing struggle over how the party addresses political accountability and its own internal divisions.
