Special Investigator Kwon Chang-young to Discuss Investigation Cooperation with Three Major Special Investigation Teams and National Police Agency

Special Investigator Kwon Chang-young will meet with the three major special investigation teams and the National Police Agency on the 26th to discuss cooperation in investigations.

On the 26th, Special Investigator Kwon Chang-young is scheduled to visit the three major special investigation teams focusing on insurrection, spouse Kim Geon-hee, and Chan Sang-byeong, as well as the National Police Agency's Counter-Terrorism Bureau. During these meetings, Kwon intends to engage with each team regarding cooperation in ongoing investigations and discuss investigative directions. Additionally, discussions with the National Police Agency are expected to cover ongoing case progress, case transfers, and requests for police personnel dispatch concerning cases previously managed by the police.

The establishment ceremony for the second Special Investigation Team was held a day prior at the Gyeonggi Gwacheon Special Team office, marking the formal commencement of the investigation. At the ceremony, Kwon emphasized the commitment to uphold political neutrality and fairness while conducting thorough probes guided strictly by law and evidence, without any sacred cows. The focus of the second Special Investigation Team includes 17 major topics, such as the insurrection planning suspicions related to the notebook of former Intelligence Chief Noh Sang-won, allegations concerning First Lady Kim Geon-hee's transition to the presidential residence, and issues surrounding the alteration of Yangpyeong Expressway routes.

This initiative reflects the ongoing efforts by South Korean authorities to uphold integrity and accountability in governance, as the special investigations involve high-profile political figures and their alleged misconducts. The cooperation between Kwon’s team and the police highlights the shared objective of thorough investigations while addressing public concerns regarding transparency and the rule of law in the country's political landscape.
