FC Robo stars join Nigeria for Cameroon friendly
Two players from FC Robo, Esther Onyenezide and Favour Nkwocha, have joined the Nigerian women's national team ahead of their friendly matches against Cameroon.
Esther Onyenezide and Favour Nkwocha, both players from FC Robo, have joined the Super Falcons' training camp in Yaoundé, preparing for two friendly matches against Cameroon. This arrival marks a significant moment as both players were among the first contingent to reach the camp, indicating their readiness for the upcoming games. Onyenezide has previous experience with the national team, having participated in a two-legged friendly against Algeria in 2024, while Nkwocha has been an integral part of the U-20 women’s team and made an impact by scoring an Olympic goal in the 3-1 victory over Ghana during the WAFU-B Championship last November.
The match against Cameroon is crucial for the Super Falcons as it serves as preparation for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to take place in Morocco. The international friendlies were arranged following the cancellation of a scheduled four-nation tournament that was supposed to include Nigeria, Benin, Senegal, and Ivory Coast. The decision to host the friendlies indicates the Nigerian Football Federation's commitment to refining the team's tactics and player cohesion before the continental tournament next month.
Competing against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon presents both a challenge and an opportunity for the Super Falcons to gauge their team’s potential against a fellow strong competitor in women’s football. The games not only aim to enhance team performance but also to foster a competitive spirit ahead of significant international matches, ultimately shaping the team's strategy as they head into the Africa Cup of Nations.
