Falcons to face Cameroon in pre-WAFCON friendlies

Nigeria's Super Falcons are set to compete against Cameroon in two friendly matches as part of their preparations for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that the Super Falcons will play two international friendly matches against Cameroon in February 2026, aimed at enhancing their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The matches will take place in Yaounde, Cameroon on February 28 and March 3, coinciding with the FIFA Women’s International Window. This decision comes after the cancellation of a planned four-nation tournament, which posed a risk to the team’s training regimen and overall readiness for the championship.

Historically, the Super Falcons have performed well against Cameroon, highlighted by their recent 2-0 victory during a preparatory match for last year's Women Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco. This success boosts confidence as they head into the upcoming friendlies. NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, indicated that arrangements for these matches have been meticulously coordinated with the Cameroonian football authorities, ensuring that the Super Falcons can adequately prepare for the pressure of continental competition.

As the reigning champions, the Super Falcons are under considerable scrutiny to defend their title at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The friendly matches against the Indomitable Lionesses will serve not only as preparation but also as a vital opportunity to assess the squad's capabilities and foster team cohesion ahead of the tournament. Successfully navigating these friendlies will be crucial for the Super Falcons as they aim to maintain their dominance in African women's football, asserting their readiness for upcoming challenges both on and off the pitch.
