Curves of the Anchieta highway undergo modernization works; more cameras and radars are being installed

Ecovias is undertaking a modernization project on the Anchieta highway to improve safety and accommodate increased heavy vehicle traffic, with completion expected by mid-2027.

The Anchieta highway, linking São Paulo city to the coast, is undergoing significant modernization aimed at improving the safety of its curves. Ecovias, the operator of the Anchieta-Imigrantes system, is specifically working on six curves between kilometers 41 and 47, with the project expected to be completed by the first half of 2027. These upgrades are necessary due to the evolving nature of freight transportation and the rise in heavy vehicle traffic, particularly 'bitrens'.

The modernization efforts include geometric adjustments to the road, adhering to current engineering standards. This encompasses changes to the curvature radius, the width of the lanes, superelevation, and overall visibility. These enhancements are designed to ensure not only the safety of vehicle passage but also to facilitate a smoother flow of heavy vehicle traffic, reducing the potential for accidents on this crucial route.

As the Anchieta highway has been in operation since 1947, these renovations are critical to keep up with modern transportation demands. The initiation of this project signals a proactive approach to road safety and infrastructure development, highlighting the necessity for ongoing investment to maintain a safe and efficient transport network in Brazil.
