Residents of Fernando de Noronha can issue a new identity card for free

Residents of Fernando de Noronha have the opportunity to obtain the first issuance of the new National Identity Card (CIN) free of charge until Friday, October 28.

The residents of Fernando de Noronha, a remote Brazilian archipelago, can take advantage of a special initiative to issue the new National Identity Card (CIN) for free until this Friday. The issuing service is available from 8 AM to 2 PM at the Casa de Justiça e Cidadania in Vila dos Remédios. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the local government and the Tavares Buril Identification Institute (IITB), which is responsible for identification documentation in the state.

Due to the island's remote location, there is no permanent staff dedicated to issuing identity cards, making this temporary service particularly significant for residents. The organizers anticipate issuing around 400 identity cards during this campaign. To obtain the first issuance of the new CIN, residents must present original and copies of their birth certificate, CPF, and, if available, their old identity card. Additionally, applicants are required to fill out a form providing their island address and can request to have additional information included on their new identity card.

This initiative highlights the efforts being made to enhance identity documentation accessibility in remote areas of Brazil. By providing free services directly in the community, the government is addressing a crucial need for personal identification among locals, potentially improving their access to services and enhancing their legal recognition within the national framework. The program reflects a growing understanding of the importance of identity cards in ensuring that residents can fully engage with public services and civic responsibilities.
