Now it’s confirmed - Beloved sugars may disappear completely from stores
Finnish company Suomen Sokeri Oy announces that traditional types of sugar might vanish from shops entirely due to changes in production.
Suomen Sokeri Oy has confirmed that beloved sugar types such as granulated, powdered, and cube sugar may completely disappear from Finnish grocery shelves. This announcement comes from Tero Tanner, the CEO of Sucros, the parent company of Suomen Sokeri, who indicated that there might not be suitable substitutes available from Nordzucker's product range. While it is assured that sugar itself will not run out, the forms in which it is available could significantly change.
On Wednesday, Suomen Sokeri announced the initiation of change negotiations aimed at halting the production of traditional granulated, powdered, and cube sugar. The company has stated that it will seek to replace these products with similar options from its parent company, Nordzucker, wherever possible. However, the timeline for when these common sugar products will disappear from local stores is currently unclear and will depend on the results of the ongoing negotiation process.
Further announcements regarding the outcome of these negotiations are expected by the end of March. Despite the changes in sugar production, the cultivation of sugar beets will continue as before, indicating a possible shift in production strategy rather than a total cessation of sugar-related activities in Finland. This development raises questions about the future availability of traditional sugar types for consumers and may impact local food industries reliant on these products.
