Visa Research - IME GSEVEE: Business Expenses Paid by Card for Nearly 1 in 2 SMEs

A study conducted by IME GSEVEE on behalf of Visa highlights the growing role of digital payments in the daily operations of businesses in Greece, particularly focusing on small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This research marks the first in-depth examination of the business-to-business (B2B) payment practices among SMEs in Greece, shedding light on current trends in financial transactions.

The findings indicate that one in two SMEs in Greece has adopted card payments for covering business expenses, with 30% of these firms reporting that they pay more than 50% of their expenses using this method. Additionally, over 90% of SMEs engage in online purchases, where cards are the dominant payment method, utilized by 54% of businesses. Furthermore, 42% of companies indicated that the use of cards has positively impacted their operations, suggesting a shift toward more efficient and modern purchasing practices.
